WSOC's Carlson named PCAC Athlete of the Week

Sep 29, 2014

Jets women's soccer goalie Stephanie Carlson was named as one of the PCAC's female Athletes of the Week, for the week ending September 28th.

Carlson, a sophomore from Mira Mesa High School, shut out Ventura, which has been ranked as high as third in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this season, as the Jets and Pirates battled to a 0-0 tie.

Carlson had five saves, three of which coach Sean Bowers described as "miraculous", as she and Ventura goalkeeper Katelyn White battled to a virtual standoff. Carlson has four shutouts over the last six games for the Jets and entered this week among Southern California leaders with a goals-against average of .05794. She and Miramar's defense have allowed three goals on the season.

Consistent with the mission of San Diego Miramar College, Miramar Jets Intercollegiate Athletics will strive for academic and athletic excellence by offering model programs that fit the needs, interests, and abilities of our male and female student-athletes. In this context, excellence is focused on the physical, emotional, and intellectual well being to develop meaningful standards of character, respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship within the educational and social environment, through highly qualified educators, coaches, and state-of-the-art facilities.
