Jets open season with a win over East L.A.
Sep 1, 2016

The Miramar College Women's soccer team opened up their 2016 season in the Ventura Tournament. Their first opponent was East LA. It took just under two minutes before Miramar's forward Maria Mendez fired a shot just wide of the East LA goal. It took five minutes more before the ball was passed to Jenni Rivera who linked her pass to Maria for Miramar's first goal of the year.

15 minutes later freshman Nicole Alvarado pushed the ball past her defender and crossed the ball in front of the goal where Aussie Siegel and a defender were fighting for position and the defender put the ball past her own keeper for a two to nothing lead. The rest of the game Miramar tried to unlock the East LA defense but were unsuccessful in putting in the third goal.

Consistent with the mission of San Diego Miramar College, Miramar Jets Intercollegiate Athletics will strive for academic and athletic excellence by offering model programs that fit the needs, interests, and abilities of our male and female student-athletes. In this context, excellence is focused on the physical, emotional, and intellectual well being to develop meaningful standards of character, respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship within the educational and social environment, through highly qualified educators, coaches, and state-of-the-art facilities.
