Miramar Athletics Announces Austin Farkas as Head Men's Water Polo Coach
San Diego Miramar College Athletics is excited to announce the promotion of Austin Farkas to Head Coach of the Men's Water Polo program beginning with the Fall 2026 season.
Austin joined the Jets coaching staff in 2025 as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's water polo programs, quickly making a positive impact on the growth and development of the student-athletes. He now takes over the men's program after building an impressive coaching résumé at both the high school and club levels.
Before arriving at Miramar, Austin served as the Head Varsity Boys Water Polo Coach at Poway High School from 2020-2024. During his tenure, he guided the Titans to the 2020 CIF Division I Championship and was named the 2020 CIF Division I Coach of the Year. Poway followed with a CIF Division I runner-up finish in 2021, captured the Palomar League Championship in 2022, and earned CIF Open Division playoff appearances from 2022 through 2025. The program also qualified as a CIF Division II State Championship contender in 2022.
Austin has also established himself as one of the area's top club coaches. He currently serves as Club Director for Poway Valley Water Polo Club and is an Olympic Development coach for the Pacific Southwest Zone. His club coaching accomplishments include a third-place finish in the 16U Silver Division at the 2022 Junior Olympics, a 16U Gold Division championship at the 2023 Junior Olympics, and an 18U Bronze Division championship at the 2025 Junior Olympics. In recognition of his leadership, he received the 2023 Pacific Southwest Scholastic Coaching Award and served as the 2024 Pacific Southwest 13U Olympic Development Coach.
As a player, Austin competed for Del Mar Water Polo Club and Cathedral Catholic High School, where he won back-to-back CIF Open Division Championships in 2015 and 2016 while finishing as a runner-up in 2017. At the club level, he helped Del Mar earn a runner-up finish in the Platinum Division at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics National Championships. His playing career also included international competition in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Spain.
The Athletics Department is excited to welcome Austin into his new role and looks forward to the continued success and growth of the Jets Men's Water Polo program under his leadership.
